Daily Life

A small, rather chubby, girl with short dark blue hair and violet eyes sat quietly in the grass, staring blankly at an unmarked target--the shuriken she threw was all over the ground and in neighboring trees.

Her teacher cleared her throat, making her jump.

"Well, ah," the teacher stuttered. "You must keep working at it and you will ace it in no time, just like your paper grades!"

The girl knew that her teacher was just trying to be nice, but she knew that she only had the brains; she wasn't cut out for athletics.

"Here, I'll help her," a boy's voice came from behind her. She could hear the girls' dreamy sighs as her lanky twin brother stepped up.

He easily threw all five shuriken individually, each hitting the center or near the center of the target. The girls giggled.

"Very good, Kazuo!" the teacher complimented. The girl sighed.

"Kurohane?" the boy whispered, but she couldn't hear his voice.

-----

"Nice job today, Fatty," a couple of girls walked by after school. Kurohane looked up hesitantly. The two girls were one of the more popular ones. They both had their hair tied up in a lush ponytail, but one had a big purple ribbon to hold up.

"I don't talk to strangers," Kurohane replied. A line she used time and time again.

A few boys joined up with grins on their faces.

"Is she bothering you, sweetie?" one of the boys said.

"Yes, in fact, she is," the girl had a big grin on her face.

Kurohane gulped.

-----

"What happened?!" her mother shrieked.

"I ran into a tree," Kurohane sighed. She had attempted to hide her black eye but her mother, especially as a medic, caught everything.

"Kurohane, I told you to call me if something happened!" Kazuo ran up to her, eyes full of worry. She looked at him with one eye swollen shut.

"Yeah, but I wanted to handle it by myself," she said, puffing out her cheeks stubbornly.

"Oh, honey, come over here. I'll heal you right up," their mother led Kurohane into the back room. She placed her palm over her daughter's eye. Kurohane took a deep breath, feeling the familiar feeling of her mother's chakra flowing through her body.

The pain receded and she felt her eye slowly open, the swollen skin now smooth like it was before. She sighed with relief. Her mother then kissed her forehead.

"That's why the girl is so soft," her father walked in. He had a square jaw with sharp eyes. "Hatchimitsu, you have to be more assertive sometimes."

"Zen, I can't help it," his wife sighed and stood up. "A mother is always looking out for her children."

Suddenly, Zen threw back his head and laughed. Kurohane smiled; she knew her father too well.

"I know," he smiled and patted Kurohane's head. "Her strength isn't in her body, but it's all up in here."

"I want to be a medical ninja like Mom!" Kurohane grinned.

"And I will be your warrior," Kazuo smiled at her. "I will always protect you."

"And I'll heal you," Kurohane smiled back.
-----

"Are you sure this is the right family?" an Anbu spoke into his earpiece.

"Yes, set up a time and we will strike."

The Anbu swallowed. He sighed and with a shuddering hand pressed on his earpiece.

"All traps set," his voice was shaky but tried his best to conceal it. "Prepare to attack in three...two..."
Sorry if this seemed a little rushed. I needed to get this chapter done and over with. Hope you enjoyed!
